How to set up landline features

Set up caller display

Caller Display allows you to see the telephone number of whoever is ringing you which means you can check who is on the line before you pick up the phone.

The service is entirely free and is switched on automatically for all Sure phone lines. Some older phones however do not have the ability to display the incoming number. Our shops in the High Street or at Le Vrange have a wide range of home telephones which can display a caller's number if you would like to take advantage of this feature.

Set up calls between 3 people

You can hold a three way conference call with two other people at the same time, wherever they are in the world.

To use three party call feature:

  1. Dial the number of the first person
  2. Put the first caller on hold by pressing R
  3. Wait until you hear the dial tone and then dial the second number
  4. When the second person answers, press R3 to connect all three people.

If your phone does not have an R button, there is a range of home telephones with this feature for sale in our shops.

Set up ring back when free

If the person you are calling is engaged, it is easy to make sure that you get through as soon as they are free, simply dial 5 when you hear that they are busy and hang up your phone.

Your own phone will ring when the number becomes free. Then when you pick up the handset, your phone will automatically dial the number you originally dialled.

How to bar an outgoing call

Outgoing call barring gives you control over which numbers can be dialled from your telephone line.

You can bar access to individual numbers or to groups of numbers. For instance, you could prevent anything other than local calls being made from your telephone, ban any calls to premium rate numbers or allow calls to the UK but not further afield.

You can even bar all numbers, apart from 999 or 112, which will always be available.

To enable Outgoing Call Barring we need to issue you with a PIN number. There is a quarterly charge for this service.

To set the Outgoing Call Barring service:

Dial *34<option number># where the <option number> is given below:

Destination to block
Option
All calls except 999 and 112 1
All National and International calls, excluding Premium Rate Services 2
All International calls 3
All operator connected calls beginning with '1' 4
All phone features (except those needed to use call barring) 5
All UK Premium Rate Services begin with 0908 and 0909 6

Cancel call barring:

Dial #34<option number>*<PIN number>#

To check barring:

For customers who do not require the flexibility to change their own call barring arrangements, permanent options, set by us are also available on request. Please call us on 01481 700700 for more information.

If you are making a call and you hear the gentle beeping, you have the option to:

  • Ignore the second call and carry on with the first call.
  • End your current call to transfer to the new one. Replace your handset and your phone will ring with the new call.
