New phone checklist
When you first sign up to Sure, get a new SIM card or mobile phone, we recommend that you take the following steps to get the most from your mobile and to protect it in the event that it is lost or stolen. The below checklist gives you some helpful ways to set up your new phone and get the most from some Sure offers and features.

Register your phone
If you already have a Pay as you go SIM or you have just got a new SIM we recommend that you register it with your name so that in the event of your phone being lost or stolen, we may have a greater chance of being able to help.
By registering to top up your phone online, your SIM will be registered with your details on our system. If you are a Pay Monthly customer, your phone will already be registered with the name given when the contract was signed and you do not need to register it again.
Register your phone with Immobilise
Ideally we recommend that you register any property of value including mobile phones, cameras and laptops with www.immobilise.com when you purchase an item. Immobilise is a free online database where you can register your property's model and serial number with your name and details so that you have a record of it online. From your online account you can then report any property lost or stolen in the event that it goes missing and make insurance claims easily as you have a full record of your property details in one place.
The Immobilise database is used by police and select companies such as Check mend™ to run checks to see if an item has been reported lost or stolen. If you are buying second-hand goods online such as a mobile phone you can check that it is not stolen by paying a small fee for a Check Mend report by visiting their website. By registering with Immobilise you can help make it more difficult for a thief to resell your property and we recommend that you make use of this free service when you purchase a new phone.
Insure your phone
Sure do not currently offer phone insurance and therefore we recommend that you take appropriate measures to insure your phone as required.
Inserting your SIM card
To insert your SIM card simply remove the back of your phone either by sliding off the back or lever it upwards to reveal the battery and SIM slot. You should see a small SIM card symbol as seen below. This symbol will show you which way up your SIM should be inserted. You will need to make sure that your SIM is inserted correctly for it to work.

Set a PIN to access your phone
When you turn your phone on for the first time with a new SIM card, you will be asked for a four digit PIN number to access the phone. This will be set as 0000 as default. Once you have accessed your phone you will be able to change your PIN number to one of your choice. You may need to enter your original code before selecting a new one. This process can vary from phone to phone but in general you will find your PIN options by accessing:
Add ICE contacts
ICE (In Case of Emergency) is a standard way that many people in the UK list emergency contacts in their phone in case of an emergency so your family or a friend can be contacted. It is not mandatory but it can be recommended to include ICE contacts e.g. ICE Mum or ICE Lucy so that if you are ever in an emergency someone can be contacted easily.
Set up voicemail
To set up your Voicemail you will need to first set up call forwarding so that the voicemail system can take messages when you can't answer a call. You can opt to divert all or some of your calls to voicemail. Simply dial the number given below and press the call button:
- Conditional
- Dial **004*171#
- (only diverts calls when you are busy, out of reach and do not answer call)
- Unconditional
- Dial **21*171#
- (diverts all calls straight to voicemail)
This will set your mobile up to divert calls when you cannot answer the phone. You'll be sent a text message automatically to let you know you've been left a voicemail message.
To listen to your message(s):
- Using your mobile on-island, dial 171
- When roaming or when using another mobile or landline phone, dial +44 (0) 7700 700000.
- The first time you access your voicemail you will be asked to set a 4 digit PIN so that you can securely access your voicemail from any landline or mobile phone. You do not need to input your PIN if you are calling from the number your have set voicemail up on.
